3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
That day is surely here. I believe Calvinism is the greatest proof of this. No longer is the truth of the Bible enough. Instead Calvinism relies on Theologians, confessions and creeds, and philosophies of men; trusting more in intellectuals than God’s word. Consider this practice in the light of scripture:
1 Corinthians 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
Calvinism heaps together teachers, having ears itching for more of their philosophies, rather than hungering for the word. It gladly abandons the simplicity of Christ for the complicated web of Calvinistic theory.
2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
Ask any Calvinist for the simple truth of salvation, and you will almost never get a simple answer. Instead of quoting scripture, they will most often quote one of their teachers.
Don’t be deceived.
Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
